Ferries and ships

There are  4 possibilities to cross the Bosporus : the nostalgic steamer  (vapur), motor boats (Araba Vapuru), ferries  (Feribot/Araba Vapuru) or the sea bus (Deniz Otobüsü).

For a crossing using the vapur you need a chip which can be bought at every landing stage (Iskele). The small motor boats function same as dolmuses. The fee for the trip is collected by the captain. There are 3 routes operated by motor boats  Kadiköy-Eminönü, Besiktas-Üsküdar, Karaköy-Üsküdar. The ferries are mainly used by car drivers who want to avoid the traffic jams on the Bosporus Bridge, however you are of course also  free to use the ferries. There are two main departing points : from Sirkeci-Harem or Kabatas-Harem (not during weekends) Tickets can be bought at every landing stage. Last but not least the deniz otobüsü is the quickest and most comfortable way to cross the Bosporus. There are two routes one operates from  Bostanci to  Bakirköy and the other from  Kadiköy to Sariyer. Chips are available at the landing stages.
