The Calligraphy Museum
The museum is located in the Beyazid complex, in 5 minute walking distance from the Sultanahmet Square. Originally the building of the museum was used as a prayer school, a so-called medrese. In 1945 the complex was converted into the Turkish Museum of Calligraphy. During the Ottoman Empire the calligraphy was one of the most widespread arts. GOOGLE ADSENSE
The museum presents a great collection of Qurans, tugras, imperial orders and seals. By the way, every sultan had his personal calligraphy as a type of seal, this emblem was called tugra. You can have also a look on the ancient calligraphy equipment and if you like a guide will explain to you how they were made. Opening hours: 9:00-16:00 (not Mondays and Sundays)
