First the former soup kitchen was presented as a masterpiece of the famous architect Mimar Sinan- called "Evkafi Islamiyet Müzesi" or "Islamic Foundations Museum". After the announcement of the republic, it was renamed into "Turkish and Islamic Works Museum".
The Ibrahim Pasa Palace itself was used in the past for weddings and celebrations. However it was also the location for rebellions and uproars. Nowadays the museum moved from the soup kitchen to the Ibrahim Pasha Palace building. The Turkish and Islamic Works Museum has been awarded with the Special Jury Award of Museum of the Year Competition of the European Council in 1984 and with the prize given by European Council UNESCO for its studies for making the children love the culture inheritance. The collection has more than 40 000 exhibits through all periods of the Islamic Empire.
