Sultan selim complex
The other mosque overseeing Istanbul and the Golden Horn is the Sultan Selim Complex which has been built in the district of Sultanselim. The construction of the mosque was started by Acem Ali and was finally completed by Sinan in 1552. GOOGLE ADSENSE
Süleyman I ordered to built the mosque in honor to Selim I. The Sultan Selim I complex included a hospital, a prayer school, a mausoleum, a double bath, a soup kitchen and a hostel for pilgrims. Only less remains from the original complex. As decoration the windows from inside are enriched with floral title panels. Additionally some of the windows have coloured glass arabesques. Medallions in the inside are inscripted with Suras from the Quran. Four members of the Sultan`s family are buried in the mausoleum of the Sultan selim complex : Sultan Selim , Süleyman I, Sultan Abdülmecid and the two daughters of Selim I.
