Kilic ali pasa mosque
The Kilic Ali Pasha Complex consists of several buildings and was designed by the famous architect Mimar Sinan. It was built from 1580 -1587. The complex is located in Tophane and was named to the grand admiral of the Ottoman Navy Kiliç Ali Pasa. Looking at the mosque you will recognize that it looks very similar to the Hagia Sophia as for example the asymmetrical dome with its arches in two directions. GOOGLE ADSENSE
As Kiliç Ali Pasa was the admiral of the Navy symbolical the location of the mosque was decided to be close to the seaside, however nowadays nothing from this remains as the land between the complex and the sea has been filled with houses. As many mosque complexes the Kilic ali pasa mosque houses a haman and a outdoor prayer lounge. The remainings of ancient hamam are located to the southwest of the mosque and originally consisted of a hot-room and a dressing room. In the nearby cemetery the tombs of the admiral were buried. The centre of the mosque is the portal with an golden inscription. As decorative elements floral tiles and religious inscriptions together with coloured window elements were used.
