Eyüp Sultan is believed to be the standard bearer for the Prophet Mohammed. The main attraction of the Eyüb Sultan Mosque is the so-called türbe, a sacred burial site. Hence, especially on Friday, which is the holy day in Islam you should avoid to visit this place as it is crowded. It is said that also during Byzantine times this area was holy. The sultans succeeding Mehmet the Conqueror completed their coronation and sword-bearing ceremonies with a visit to the Eyup Sultan Mausoleum. Close to the mosque is a Bazaar however the area around this complex is also full with cannons and beggars.
