The Galata Tower
The Galata Tower is also one good example for the Ottoman tradition to use ancient towers as fire-towers. The 55 meter high tower is worth a visit especially when the weather is nice. You will be awarded with a breath-taking view over the old town.

The so-called Galata Kulesi was originally part of the defense wall surrounding their district of Galata. It was the trade connection point to the Byzantines. The tower served also as a control point of the harbor of the Golden Horn. Later, Mehmet II appointed it as a fire tower. Nowadays it houses a restaurant and a well-known night-club.
