The city is lively and very hospitable. Not only Istanbul’s inhabitants are fascinating but also the treasures from the past. On every step you will discover credentials from Byzantine-times so that it seems that whole Istanbul is a large open air museum.

The best time to visit Istanbul is spring or autumn. The temperature is between 16-20°C – what is perfect for walking around and you can also enjoy a coffee or tea in the sun. Another argument for visiting Istanbul during this period is that there are not as many tourists as usually and the queues are not so long. Another point you should keep in mind when you are planning to visit Istanbul is that during the fast month Ramadan most of the Turkish people do not eat during daylight and so many restaurant offer only a reduced range of food during the day. At the end of the Ramadan Bayram is celebrated and Istanbul is very busy, however all shops are closed and the public transport is strongly affected.

Also a consideration worth is weather you would like to stay only some days as short trip or long weekend in Istanbul or you prefer to take you more time to discover the ancient metropolis. My tip is to combine a visit to Istanbul with some days at one of Turkey`s wonderful coasts. Kemer, Bodrum, Alanya and Antalya are some of the most favorite places where you you can get some relaxation after all the impressions you will get during your stay in Istanbul. There are good daily connections from both Istanbul airports to the coast regions and especially the airlines sun express or Turkish airlines offer cheap inland flights.
